Help us Help Yolanda (Haiyan) Victims

Standard

10 November 2013

Dear friends,

Greetings of peace and solidarity!

The havoc brought by super Typhoon Yolanda (International name Haiyan) last 8th of November 2013 has caused major devastation to hundreds of thousands of Filipinos. Around 10,000 individuals are feared to be dead, including children and elderly, while there are still thousands missing. Many have lost their homes, livelihood and most especially their loved-ones.

The provinces of Samar and Leyte in the Visayas and Mindoro Oriental in Southern Luzon were heavily affected. The storm surge in Eastern Samar and Eastern part of Leyte submerged communities including the highly urbanized city of Tacloban. Yolanda instantly destroyed houses, schools and other major infrastructures.

Typhoon Yolanda has left but the long-term effects will stay with the affected families. Survivors are desperately in need of our support, from basic necessities like food, potable water, clothes and medicine, to helping them cope with trauma and negative impact of the disaster in their lives.

These families need to be reached out and the Task Force Children of the Storm (TFCOS) is counting on your big hearts. We need more support in the form of in kind and cash donations to be able to give flood affected families the following:

  1. Easy to cook and ready to eat products: noodles, sardines, tuna, corned beef and other canned goods, dried fish, etc.;
  2. Rice, Salt, Sugar, Coffee;
  3. Potable water;
  4. Sanitary and personal hygiene needs: toilet paper, sanitary napkins, diaper, laundry soap, bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush;
  5. Medical needs: alcohol, bandages, povidine, medicine for cough, colds, fever, diarrhoea, pain reliever and antibiotics for both children and adults.

Aside from these items, we also count on your tireless volunteerism to help us gather, package and deliver the relief goods. TFCOS also needs volunteers for health missions and psycho social first aid which are planned to be implemented within November.
